Tom Wylie’s 1978 36’ Custom Cruising Cutter
SV Wild Spirit
$65,000
The concept of Wild Spirit was conceived by a select group of Bay Area Sailors who were collaborating on a design for the “perfect cruising boat”. Notable Bay area designer Tom Wylie, distilled those ideas into what became Wild Spirit. You can read about it in an article, published in Latitude 38 in November 1978. It’s worth a read. The result was a purpose-built, blue-water, South Pacific trade-winds cruiser. Her spacious interior is well ventilated, bright and airy with fresh air from 4 hatches and 10 portlights. Handholds are in reach throughout the boat. Her hull is strong, deep, light and fast. Her foredeck flush. The comment we most often hear from sailors viewing the exterior or interior of Wild Spirit is, “I can’t believe its only a 36 foot boat.”
